About worldheritageX

worldheritageX is an independent, free reference to every UNESCO World Heritage Site on Earth - all 1,248 of them, from the Acropolis to Yellowstone. We set out to do one thing well: take the official World Heritage List and present it the way a good printed museum catalogue or a world atlas would, redrawn for the web - one clear page per site, accurate facts, and nothing in the way.

For each site you get the essentials drawn straight from the official record: its name, country, the year it was inscribed, the selection criteria translated into plain English, its coordinates, and a way to see it and plan a visit. We add browse routes - by continent, by type, and by theme - so you can wander the list the way you would wander a gallery.

We are not affiliated with UNESCO and we do not republish their descriptive texts; we present the facts in our own format. The site uses affiliate links to travel partners, which never change the price you pay and never affect which sites we list - every site is included on equal footing. Privacy

We collect as little as possible and we do not sell your personal data. Like most websites, our server records standard technical information for each visit (such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you view) to keep the site running, secure and fast, and to understand in aggregate which sites readers find useful.

When you click an outbound link to one of our travel partners (for example GetYourGuide, Booking.com or Tripadvisor, some routed via Stay22), that partner may set a cookie so any booking is correctly attributed to us - this is what keeps the site free. Those cookies are set by the partner, governed by the partner's own privacy policy, and never change the price you pay.
